Our technology facilitates both technical and fundamental reviews.
Fundamental reviews are critical, since these are the only reviews that provide a check against source documentation. Technical checks can help identify the need for double-checks, but they do not take the place of random, fundamental reviews.
Our Processes
Medical coding problems occur in two ways: under-coding and over-coding. Under-coding can result in lost revenue whereas over-coding leads to compliance risk, claim denials and management headaches. The Coding Center has gone to great lengths to develop and implement multiple processes to prevent both and ensure accuracy for our clients.
Recruiting Process
Quality starts with good hires. In addition to requiring experience and credentials, we require our coding professionals to pass TCC internal coding tests administered by our master coders. Of course, background checks, drug screening, and reference checks are completed up-front. Before our coders are released for production coding they must complete a 100% quality check period. We also provide our coders with continuing education and great tools to stay informed regarding developments and updates in medical coding.
Quality Reviews
Our fundamental quality assurance process allows us to perform both pre-bill and retrospective quality reviews. To promote continuous improvement, we seek as much insight as possible into any errors that we find and provide written feedback to our coding experts after all quality reviews. This allows us to make quality improvements with as much data as possible. Our Quality Review process ensures an educational focus using written feedback for a dialog between the coder and reviewer. It also provides written history that is reviewed when evaluating our overall quality perspective.
Reconciliation
We have developed a unique physician query process that allows us to get questions back to physicians when critical information is either missing, ambiguous, or contradictory in the record. We also work with each of our clients to develop clinical documentation improvement programs and suggestions that can have a positive effect on the accuracy and efficiency of both the coding and billing processes.
Long Workdays
One of the benefits of our platform is extended coding workdays. This is possible because we employ a variety of coders that work in various time zones and at different hours. This includes weekend work, too. Our turnaround times are often surprising to our clients. This model simply allows us to get things done faster than most hopsitals.
